low fodmap diet
FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed in some individuals.
When they reach the small intestine, FODMAPs attract water while moving slowly.
In the large intestine, they are fermented by gut bacteria, which produces gas as a result.
Gas along with water stretches the intestinal wall and causes symptoms of pain, discomfort, constipation, and/or diarrhea.
